How are elections won?  By going on Safari and finding more GOP             Elephants!!  We began our Safari on May 25 at our regular meeting. It continues at our next meeting on June 22 at the River Terrace. There will be much excitement as the hunt continues.  Bring a guest.  Who knows – they may join our Elephant Stampede!!  You are probably thinking of someone you can “Bag and Tag” as you read this.  There will be door prizes and lots of fun!!  Special speakers for this “EVENT” are our very own Lou and Winfree Brown.  Win was asked by       President Bush to serve on the White House Council on Aging in Washington DC.  Lou accompanied him and both will give a presentation of the importance of this council.  I am sure you will not want to miss it.

Speaking of “Stampede” – there is never a dull moment.  We were inspired and motivated by our Republican Party of Texas Chairman, Tina Benkiser at our last meeting.  She also presided at the Republican State Convention held in       San Antonio June 2-3.  The convention was such a wonderful experience.  Both state and national elected officials addressed the group.  Texas has the largest state convention in the nation.  The word, “grassroots”, must have originated there.  The Senatorial Districts had their caucuses and the Republican Party platform was   developed and adopted.  This is truly where the people have a voice.

A word of appreciation also goes to Judge Bob Pemberton for explaining the extreme importance of the judicial races in November.  You will hear more about this each month.

By the time you get this our CVRW elephant team will have been seen at the Fiesta on the Concho June 10.  I hope you got the word to join them or saw them in action carefully hunting.  This is our Outreach, Voter Registration and       Membership Committee guides at work.  If you would like to participate in more of this kind of activity, please let us know.

See you June 22!!

May God Bless Texas and the USA!!

Teddye

Voter Registration Report

CHALLENGE:  From TFRW to all Clubs

EVERY VOTE COUNTS, INCLUDING HIS AND HERS

"CREATIVE VOTER REGISTRATION"

Prospective conservative voters will vote for Republicans, whether or not the prospective voter uses the word "Republican" before they register to vote.  We must register conservatives by whatever name they call themselves.  We want to register conservatives now for the November election and beyond.

When we register a conservative, that is one vote for your county candidates, state candidates, and federal candidates; every vote counts.

We have over 12,000 members statewide.  If each member would give out one voter registration card we would have 12,000 new voters to vote for our candidates.  That's 24,000 if each member gives out two cards.  I have set a minimum goal of five cards for each club member.  THAT'S 60,000 NEW VOTERS for our state and national candidates!  How many new voters would that be for your county candidates?  Hmm, let's see; five cards to five prospective conservative voters times the number of members you have - - would that number help your county Republican candidates?  Of course it would.  In our counties, we have all seen tight races and even ties.  A voter registration drive to register conservative voters will give your county candidates a greater chance of winning and that's what it's all about for your county party.

I know how active you are and the difference you are making.  You are so special.  I know your club will help in this effort to register new conservative voters.

"Register a conservative voter and defeat a Democrat!"

Marcella Derrick Shaw, Chairman, TFRW Voter Registration Committee

Concho Valley Republican Women will answer this challenge in several different ways in the coming months.  Beginning with our June meeting, we will have voter registration cards for members to pick up.  This summer as you meet new people, talk to them about CVRW.  If you feel they have your conservative values, have some voter registration cards in your purse.  They can fill the cards out and mail them in.  Each month we will have a sign in sheet at our meetings where you can post how many cards you have handed out, or you can call me at 656-5487 with your numbers.  There will also be a surprise gift for the two who have helped the most in this effort.

CVRW now has a pamphlet of information about our club.  These will available at our June meeting.  Please take a few and give them to prospective members.  The pamphlet also has a membership form that can be mailed to our membership committee.

Of course, registering new members for CVRW and getting people to register to vote are just parts of a bigger picture.  We also encourage our members to remind friends to vote.  We will have more information and ideas for getting out the vote in coming months.

Thank you in advance for your time and help with these issues.

Folks, read this article carefully and consider the very subtle but determined attempt being made to control the minds of our K1 through college, students through what they're taught.  "The Plan" is already being put into play with the passing of HB 1 in the Texas House recently.   We conservatives must develop our own "plan" to thwart the effort.

From The New York Times, 5.20.06

Okay, here it is all laid out for even the most naive to see. The Plan.

Establish curriculum standards in colleges/universities, test students, and base federal aid to all private and public colleges/universities upon those tests.

The tests then control what is taught each day in the college/university classes. Soon the college/university professors will narrow the day-to-day instruction to whatever is tested on the tests. Whoever writes the tests controls what is taught in every private and public college/university in the country.

Texas again is leading the way through Charles Miller and Margaret Spellings who helped drive this system into K-12.  Because of HB 1 which was passed in Texas just last week, two unelected Commissioners will control the process to set standards for P-16, putting Texas in line to follow The Plan as outlined in this article.

The Plan might not be so bad if we could trust that the college/university standards would be written by people who value traditional, knowledge-based, academic content; but that certainly has not been the case in K-12 standards teams. Most of the states have produced flawed standards which emphasize project-based learning; and consequently, the tests based upon the standards are also flawed and contain highly subjective sections which emphasize students' opinions, beliefs, emotions.

Give this some thought:

What if you as a parent of college-age students do not hold the same value system as the people who write the tests?

What if you want your children to have a traditional college education that emphasizes Western Civilization and the Judeo-Christian ethic

What if you want your children to take deep-content courses that emphasize democracy, free enterprise, capitalism, and the historical foundation of our country

What if you want your children to read, discuss, and analyze the great classical pieces of literature which have connected generations?

What if you choose to pay high tuition to send your children to a private college only to find out that their professors are forced to teach the same type of curriculum as is taught in public colleges/universities because all students must take the same tests in order to receive financial aid?

Remember this guiding principle which every K-12 classroom teacher in America now understands: What gets tested gets taught!  Whoever controls the tests controls the minds of the next generation.
